Silesian Ostrava and Radvanice-Bartovice will be cleaned by Racoon
Racoon (Mýval in Czech) is the name of the new cleaning vehicle worth more than 4 million crowns that was donated to Silesian Ostrava and
Radvanice-Bartovice by this company on January 24. “We started in our own premises. Last year we increased the cleaning frequency within
the company area and we managed to collect 1800 tonnes of dust during the year, which was 1000 tonnes more than in 2007. Otherwise the dust
would have been carried with the wind to the adjacent areas. We believe that our new cleaning vehicle will contribute to the reduction of
dust nuisance in the neighbouring boroughs,” says Sanjay Samaddar, the CEO of ArcelorMittal Ostrava.
And why has the vehicle been named Racoon? The name was invented by pupils of class 3B at the Vrchlický primary school in Radvanice a
Bartovice. “We engaged all primary schools situated in Silesian Ostrava and Radvanice-Bartovice; at each school, one class participated in
the competition whose purpose was to come up with an appropriate name for the cleaning vehicle. And it was the name of Racoon that the
committee consisting of the two boroughs, the City of Ostrava and this company liked best,” explains Monika Pěnčíková, the head of CR at
ArcelorMittal Ostrava. She adds that the child who came up this name had the opportunity to baptize the vehicle using a non-alcoholic
champagne. The winning class was awarded a certificate for a visit to the ZOO with a special programme.
